A few years ago I visited Trascau Mountains where mountain paths took me to lost villages, wonderful landscapes and people who have lived there humbly for generations. I will never forget this time and those people.
My experience had never left my mind and so a friend and I decided to share the journey together and return this time by a vehicle, a 4wd car taking in Routes that I used to do on foot.
This time I saw a realisation and looked openly at the stark reality, where infrastructure had lacked factories closed schools shut and where investment just hadn’t been made! A reality crept in, the penny has dropped I realized again that I am witnessing the last hours of a way of life, the last hours of the Romanian village as I see it, as it once was witnessing the last people hanging on to what is a vanishing community with extinction almost inevitable to these last villages.
